I was very disappointed with my stay. The room I was given appeared to be a staff bedroom, and the experience was poor from start to finish. The lock on the door was inadequate (the latch did not fully extend) and left me feeling unsafe — I ended up placing a chair against the door overnight for peace of mind. The separate bathroom was also insecure. It contained an old shower cubicle with a “staff only” sign and was being used to store towels, meaning any staff member with a key could have entered while I was inside. Once again, I had to use a chair as a makeshift lock. The bedroom itself lacked basic comforts and cleanliness: there was no bedside table, the bed was pushed against a filthy wall, and there was no mattress protector, the curtains were falling from the curtain rail. These details made the space feel unhygienic and uncomfortable. When I returned the key in the morning, no one asked how my stay was, which made me wonder if management were already aware of the substandard conditions. Overall, as a solo female staying in this room I felt extremely vulnerable and uncomfortable in this accommodation and would not stay here again.

We hired the function room for a surprise 80th birthday party. As it was a lovely warm evening we decided to only use the covered garden area which is beautiful. Accessible to wheelchair users. You do have a large inside quirky area, but the garden for us was the perfect size! Plenty of space, lovely plants. There was a Bluetooth speaker available so we didn’t have to pay a DJ, we made our own playlist. There’s no immediate bar area, but a quirky little corridor takes you to the main bar. The staff are friendly, made sure the area was kept glass free. You have the option to have the party catered at a very reasonable rate, we self catered due to dietary needs. We were able to go in earlier in the day to decorate the room, and move things around to suit our needs! It is a pub & hotel/bed & breakfast and there is free limited parking in a carpark area behind the property. Great night was had & we asked when the bar was closing it was 11pm for us but if the bar is kept busy by the party I believe they will keep it open later! Only downside was no access to the kitchen to store things in a cold temp but not really a major issue. Thank you Simon & Karen, would definitely recommend.

Amazing hotel The hotel is very beautiful and very thematic, bed was comfortable and the staff were very friendly. Will definitely be staying again

My stay 4.7.25 Nice room, bathroom could do with a shelf, I was balancing things on and in the sink. 3 lamps in room but no bulbs. Struggled to close secondary glazing window so was very noisy at night from traffic and people. Had to move TV to plug kettle in and due to bed being in way of screen. Shocked to find we had to pay £15 each for breakfast, no choice of size, too much for me to eat, took most of it home with me (I don't like waste) cereal, orange juice, full English, with or without toast, tea or coffee. Would've preferred a choice of small or large breakfast. We only booked 1 night so wouldn't have paid for breakfast if staying longer. Nice friendly staff, lovely beer garden....

I’m deeply disappointed by the treatment I received from the receptionist at this hotel. I called to check on a friend who had stayed there the night before. I had personally dropped her off at the hotel, ensuring she was safe, as she had been drinking and I wanted to make sure she got to her room safely. The next day, we hadn’t heard from her, so I called the hotel out of concern. While I fully understand and respect data privacy laws (I work in the field myself), my intention was never to obtain any confidential information. I already had all of my friend's details, and was simply asking the hotel to confirm if she was okay or to pass along a message to contact us. Instead of handling the situation with empathy or professionalism, the receptionist interrupted me repeatedly, shouting “data privacy!” over and over before abruptly hanging up on me. This behavior was not only rude but completely uncalled for. A polite explanation or a basic assurance that they would try to get a message to the guest would have been enough. Hotels should prioritize guest welfare and show basic decency to those expressing genuine concern. What I experienced was shocking, unprofessional, and frankly unacceptable. I hope the hotel takes a serious look at how their front desk staff handles sensitive situations like this in the future.
